A special visit

March saw the arrival among us of Fr Joaquin Barrero SJ, Regional Assistant for Southern Europe, who visited the Maltese Jesuit Province for a few days.

Jesuit Provinces are grouped according to geographical region, and these groups are called Assistancies, because there is an Assistant to Fr General who oversees the provinces of each group. There are ten such assistancies in the universal society, and since last year our Province belongs to the Assistancy of Southern Europe, which includes the Provinces of Italy, Portugal and the five Spanish provinces.

Fr Barrero, a former Provincial of the Castile Province, and an Assistant since 2008, came for his first official familiarisation visit, and he managed to visit all the communities and our major works according to a tight programme.
