Appeal for new and used books

Do you have any new or used books (in good condition) that you would like to donate? We would really appreciate them!

This year, the Jesuit-run Paulo Freire Institute is raising funds to produce a re-run of our 'iċ-Ċavetta' literacy toolkit, and provide literacy training to 1000 vulnerable adults. The award-winning iċ-Ċavetta toolkit is made up of a set of specifically designed textbooks for students and trainers, an interactive dvd, flash cards and game board which were designed with adult students in mind. A previous edition, which has now run out, proved to be extremely successful.

The cost of production, printing and training, as well as upgrading of basic training facilities is €30,000. Through ongoing fundraising efforts we are almost half way there. With your help we can make it!!

Literacy being so fundamental, on completion of the course our students are no longer so disadvantaged when faced with everyday living and work opportunities.

With this aim in mind, our fundraising and development office is organising a number of bookstalls, the first lot being set up outside the St Aloysius' College chapel during this year's edition of SAC Fest, which will take place between 24th and 26th May 2013.

New and used books may be left at:

  • The Paulo Freire Institute at Żejtun
  • Jesuit Provincial Offices in Naxxar (call 21 412 606 and ask for Pauline)
  • Mount St Joseph Retreat House in Mosta
  • St Aloysius' College in Birkirkara

You may also bring books for donation with you on the day.

Further dates and venues will be announced shortly.

Give the gift of literacy through your donation of books, through purchasing books at the stalls, or through a secure online donation here. (Online donations may be made with a limit of €99 per transaction. Multiple transactions may be made.)
