Testimony of trainer

"Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."

Chinese proverb

This year's Cultural Mediation Training, organised by JRS Malta and held over two subsequent weekends in July, was my first experience of working with refugees, but not my first of working with people from diverse cultures. Such interaction is always a colourful experience; the Cultural Mediation Training proved nothing less.

The people who attended the sessions I delivered showed genuine interest and contagious enthusiasm. They participated actively, asking questions, engaging in constructive discussions and expressing their own opinions. They took initiative, gave feedback when asked to do so, and offered their sincere gratitude at the end of the training.

The Culture Mediation Training was, for me, a tangible experience of empowering people, of enabling them to take full responsibility of their skills and talents, and most importantly, of offering them an opportunity to work towards being professionals in their own right.
